Dom Drama is a series of 8 Dom grit artworks, inspired by the unveiling of the Dom Tower from the restoration scaffolding.
The restoration of the Dom Tower in Utrecht is nearing its end. For 5 years, the scaffolding has covered the tower. Now, they are being dismantled floor by floor, and the Dom is slowly reappearing. It's a dramatic sight; like an enormous hourglass, the Dom Tower is counting down to its unveiling, and we wait patiently.
Dom Drama depicts this iconic process. Each graphic painting shows one less floor of scaffolding, revealing more of the tower each time.
The special paint used for the 'Domme Restauratie' series contains grit from the Dom Tower obtained during the restoration. Each artwork in the Dom Drama series contains approximately 5 grams of Dom grit.
The frames are made of Utrecht city wood in collaboration with Noest. The type of tree and its former location are engraved on the side of the frame.
Only one copy of each painting is made.
